The Killeen Heights Rotary Club recently joined volunteers with Sleep in Heavenly Peace for a busy weekend of building beds for local children and families in need. By the end of the weekend, volunteers had completed 10 beds, including a larger build for one Temple family that included three bunk beds and two single beds.

An additional bunk bed was completed at another Temple location, bringing the weekend total to 10 beds ready for delivery.
The weekend also featured a special collaboration with the Let’s Feed Kids Initiative, a Let’s Eat Texas Passion Project created by Chef Josie McKinney. As part of the partnership, eight children received “treasure kits” filled with snacks and toys—adding a thoughtful and personal touch to the day.
The team also welcomed a first-time builder who quickly jumped into the work and became an important part of the effort. Like any hands-on project, there were a few unexpected challenges along the way. When several headboards didn’t fit quite right, the volunteers worked together to make adjustments and find a solution. Their teamwork kept the project moving, and the main build was completed in about three hours.
There was even a furry volunteer on hand—a friendly brown puppy who kept watch over the activity and provided plenty of smiles throughout the day.
At the end of the weekend, 10 children’s beds were ready to provide a safe and comfortable place to sleep.
For Killeen Heights Rotary and its community partners, the project was about more than building beds. It was about coming together to make a tangible difference in the lives of local families. Every bed represents a child who can rest more comfortably and a community that is showing, through service, that they care.
