The Caldwell and Somerville Rotary Club joined forces on Saturday, October 24th as part of the Rotary International’s World's Largest Polio Walk event. The goal of the walk was to raise money and awareness for the Rotary Club's efforts to eradicate polio using vaccines.

Burleson County's event will kicked off at Connect Coffee at 301 W.Buck Street in Caldwell at 10 a.m. and included a walk downtown around the city square.

Joining the walk were community members from both Somerville and Caldwell, including polio survivors Betty Suehs and Ben Flencher. They both shared the their stories and memories as well as how polio is still affecting them today as adults.

President, Betsy Wellhausen, reminded the group that, even though today only two countries have identified cases of polio that the risk is only a plane ride away, and that we must stay vigilant. Donations exceeded over $500 at the event and everyone enjoyed the opportunity to come together for this important cause.
