Club Excellence Award 2025-2026

A huge congratulations to the thirteen clubs in District 5870 that earned the Club Excellence Award for 2025–26 — Rotary’s highest recognition for club achievement. This award celebrates clubs that go above and beyond in service, leadership, innovation, and member engagement. Your work is transforming communities and inspiring others to rise to your example.  

RY 2025-26 Membership: Year in Review

District 5870 concluded the 2025–2026 Rotary year with encouraging membership results and ample reasons to feel optimistic. We finished the year with 1,914 members—a net gain of 50 and our strongest year of membership growth in two decades. Our clubs welcomed 271 new members, the highest total in four years, while existing-member terminations declined by about 30 percent.

On Saturday, October 24, 2026, at 10:00 a.m., Rotarians across Rotary Zones 25B and 29 will come together for the World's Largest Polio Walk. While thousands of Rotarians will be walking at the same time, each club has the opportunity to make an impact right in its own community.

Georgetown Surpasses $1 Million in Foundation Giving!

The Rotary Club of Georgetown recently celebrated a major milestone, surpassing $1 million in cumulative giving to The Rotary Foundation since the club was chartered in 1962. 

At the start of the 2025–2026 Rotary year, the club was still about $112,000 away from reaching the goal. Thanks to the dedication of Foundation Chair Georgianne and the incredible generosity and commitment of Georgetown Rotarians, the club not only reached the milestone—it exceeded it, finishing the year with $1,030,155 in lifetime giving.

Rotary Clubs Bring Summer Relief to Seniors

Eight Rotary clubs in the Greater Killeen area joined forces with the Killeen Fire Department to help local seniors stay safe during the summer heat. The Rotary Clubs of Harker Heights, Temple, Temple South, Killeen, Killeen Heights, Belton, E-Club of Central and Copperas Cove partnered on the Fans for Seniors project, collecting and distributing 417 box fans—surpassing their original goal of 300 fans.

Books, Service, and Smiles: Rotary Partners with Headwaters School to Promote Literacy

The Rotary Club of Austin recently partnered with Headwaters School on a successful literacy project that brought hundreds of books into the hands of students at Harris Elementary, a Title 1 school in Austin. What began as a no-budget book drive quickly became a meaningful community effort, with Rotary members and Headwaters students working side-by-side to collect, sort, and distribute gently used books to help children build their home libraries and encourage summer reading.

Operation Vacation Gives Military Family a Well-Deserved Austin Getaway

PFC Troy Pettit, his wife, and their one-year-old son recently enjoyed a relaxing weekend of rest and recreation in Austin thanks to the generosity of the Rotary Clubs of Austin and Killeen, along with the support of our local hospitality partners. For more than 15 years, Operation Vacation has been one of Rotary’s heartfelt ways of thanking military families serving at Fort Hood (now Fort Cavazos) for their dedication and sacrifice. This month’s family was treated to a complimentary weekend stay at the Hilton Garden Inn Downtown, complete with breakfast each morning.

From a Chicken Coop to a Community Cornerstone

In 2011, Nancy Lehmann-Carssow of the Northwest Austin Rotary Club led a group of travelers to see the Rehema School and Orphanage in Korogocho, one of the largest slums outside Nairobi, Kenya. Conditions were so difficult that most of the group never left the van. Nancy did. Before leaving, she asked the school's director a simple question: if he could have one thing, what would it be?
