For first timer PHF’s, if you have not already contributed or taken advantage of the Jerry Johnson trust matching funds, please consider doing so as we are going for 100% district participation.
This year – 2017 – marks the 100th Anniversary of our Foundation, and we need your help to celebrate this anniversary in a big way. We are asking every Rotarian in the district to help us achieve 100% participation in the 100th year – meaning, we are asking every Rotarian in District 5870 to contribute something (preferably $25 but anything will be appreciated) to the Rotary Foundation’s Annual Fund between now and June 30th. We’ve never done that before, reach 100% giving. The best we’ve ever done is 87.5%. This is definitely the year to make that magic happen! UPDATE: As of April 30, we are only at 67.3%. If you haven’t contributed to the Annual Fund yet we NEED your help.
District 5870 has a unique method to help you become an initial (first-time) Paul Harris Fellow. Over the past six years, 692 Rotarians in 54 different clubs have taken advantage of this program, resulting in 389 PHFs. We hope to be able to help you, too.
The Jerry Johnson Testamentary Trust (the “Trust”) will generally match contributions of new cash made during the current Rotary year to the Annual Fund-SHARE on a 1-to-1 basis in amounts of $100 to $500 for any active Rotarian in District 5870 who is not yet a first time Paul Harris Fellow.
Clubs and districts can now use global grants to build low-cost shelters and simple schools, under a recent policy change that will be in effect through 2019. The construction must be part of a comprehensive project related to an area of focus. (Projects that involve construction alone are still not eligible for global grants.)
Please note that these structures are limited. Low-cost shelters are intended to provide housing for the destitute or homeless. Simple schools provide very modest schools in areas that previously had none; they aren’t intended to enhance existing schools. The Rotary District 5870 Governor Installation Banquet will be held at the centrally-located Reunion Ranch in Georgetown on Saturday, June 17, from 11:30AM-2PM. Incoming DGE Jerry Chapman, incoming DGN Jim Henry and DG Gene Holliman will be formally inducted in that ceremony. All Rotarians and their family are invited. It will be a family-friendly informal affair in a western-themed venue, so formal attire is NOT required. Come, relax, and have fun.Tickets are $40 for adults; $20 for kids. Waco Rotary donated materials for Early Literacy Kits for Waco McLennan County Libraries. These kits are geared for children ages 2 to 4.
They are centered on themes like colors, shapes, and numbers. They include books, age-appropriate games, and an activities list so parents can get creative when working with their children. These kits help support the Prosper Waco Initiative on education which aims to build an environment that promotes life-long educational attainment for all residents.
