Congratulations Rotarians!!!
Congratulations to District 5870 for it’s tremendous two-year run!  Our district finished #11 in the world (out of 541 districts) in Annual Fund per capita giving in RY 2018-19, and #12 in the world in Annual Fund per capita giving in RY 2019-20.  Not too shabby for a relatively small district in the middle of Texas.

Lakeway/Lake Travis Scholarship Awards
The Lakeway/Lake Travis Rotary club in partnership with the Ladies of charity (LOC) have announce their 2020 Scholarship Awards. This year 5 Lake Travis High School Students were awarded $6,000 each, for a total of $30,000 to the college of their choice.

PDG Rich Kaye Appointed RRFC for Region 36
Congratulations to PDG Rich Kaye! He was appointed by PRIP John Germ, Chair-elect of The Rotary Foundation’s Board of Trustees, to serve as the Regional Rotary Foundation Coordinator (RRFC) for Region 36.  The region is comprised of the 23 districts that are in Zones 25b and 29.

Killeen Heights Kicks-Off Rotary Year With Service
Killeen Heights Rotary started the year with a service project at the Boys and Girls Club. They sorted and shelved somewhere around 500 books, for a total of 18 service hours!

West Austin Rotary Club Global Grant
 
The West Austin Rotary Club was awarded our first Global Grant from Rotary International in June 2019.  The grant was made to support water and sanitation projects in two rural Nicaraguan communities – El Aulo and Nueva Jerusalem.

Global Grant Scholarship Awarded
The Rotary Club of Austin candidate Marta Hererra has been awarded a Global Grant Scholarship of $32,500 for conflict resolution studies at the London School of Economics and Political Science.

“Books for the World” Engages Rotarians in Literacy for Developing Communities
In Texas, Rotarians can be all too aware of the controversies surrounding school textbook choice, with quarrels notoriously centered on the degree of emphasis to give to selected historical figures and even whether or not to allow use of a single word to describe the defenders of the Alamo. Required texts are changed out every few years.

Rotary Club of La Grange Assists Local Non-Profits
Members of the Rotary Club of La Grange volunteered to distribute food at the AMEN Food Pantry in July. High temperatures and the pandemic caused the food pantry to be short volunteers and local Rotarians stepped up to help.

Rotary Club of Austin Supports Eagle Scout Project
Congratulations to 10th Grader Anthony Corpus who completed his Eagle Scout Award by rebuilding the wooden boxes around the flower beds in the front of Pecan Springs Elementary School! It was a fine example of perseverance During difficult circumstances and giving back to his community.
