Operation Vacation provided the Searcy family with a holiday weekend full of fun and great memories. In partnership with Rotary Clubs of Austin & Killeen, The Austin Hotel Lodging Association and County Line Restaurants, SSG Searcy and his family of three had a suite at the new JW Marriott Hotel with meals and access to all the downtown attractions.
This was their first time to Austin so they were very excited. The County Line provided an unforgettable BBQ meal Saturday where the family was treated as VIPs and had some special quality family time. The soldier told me that the greatest thing about the weekend was the timing: His wife had been away at nursing school for months and only got to come home for a week during the holidays. It was fun to surprise her with a Holiday weekend in Austin and it was a nice break for the soldier since he had been the caretaker for their children with the help of his mother in law as well as fulfilling his daily military duties at Ft. Hood. He was also blown away at all the special care everyone gave the family and what a friendly city Austin was. They will carry these memories forever. It was a special way for the sponsors to be able to show their appreciation and say thank you to the family and soldier for their service to our country. What a best gift ever for the Christmas season!
