Thank you to our devoted Rotary members who joined us at Helping Hand Home’s Champions for Children Awards Luncheon on October 8th. It was a moving celebration of people and organizations whose compassion and service are changing lives across Central Texas.

We were inspired by this year’s community honorees:

  • Amanda and Will Rivas, Foster and Adoptive Parents honorees, adopted nine young children, providing a safe, loving home and the care and stability every child deserves.
  • Eli Yorio, Youth Volunteer honoree and founder of 26 for 26, turned a volunteer experience at the Central Texas Food Bank into action. After learning how medical debt can contribute to financial hardship and food insecurity, he partnered with Undue Medical Debt during his freshman year to launch a campaign to eliminate $2.6 million in medical debt for Travis County families before his graduation in 2026. He surpassed that goal, helping eliminate $6.8 million in debt.
  • Austin FC and the ATX Foundation, Champions of Youth and Empowering Community honorees, use soccer to strengthen connections and invest in Central Texas. Through Verde Leaders, free youth soccer classes, and accessible community soccer spaces, they help young people build confidence and develop leadership skills.
  • Susan and Gary Farmer, Philanthropic Heroes honorees, were recognized for their extraordinary commitment to Central Texas through philanthropy, volunteerism, and civic leadership. Their support has touched organizations including Caritas of Austin, the Seton Fund, Thinkery, and Dell Medical School.

The day’s message became deeply personal when speaker and writer Cia Brorman shared her experience of childhood abuse, rejection, and feeling unloved. She described how caring people helped her build confidence, recognize her worth, and find her voice. Today, she shares her story with volunteers, therapists, foster families, and supporters who care for children facing similar challenges.

Her message was a powerful reminder that showing up for a child can make a lasting difference - and that encouragement and steady support can help a young person imagine a different future.

For our Rotarians, the luncheon brought Service Above Self to life. We were grateful to not only work to serve Helping Hand Home for their annual Splash Bash and Holiday Gifts & Party - but to share this meaningful day and celebrate those who give children safety, belonging, and hope.
