The Rotary International President, Sakuji Tanaka, challenged each of the
34,000 Rotary Clubs around the world to hold a peace forum and promote Peace
Through Service, our 2012-2013 Rotary Theme. The Rotary Club of Giddings held a
Peace Forum at Immanuel Luthern School in Giddings, Texas on March 28, 2013.
Rotarian, Pastor Robert Tiner, spoke to the students about service to each other, their
community, and the world. The focus of the forum was finding peace (both inner and
outer) through service to others.

The forum culminated in a joint project between the Rotary Club of Giddings, the
students of Immanuel Luthern School and Operation Hugs to send care packages to
American troops stationed in war zones overseas. Through the students collection
efforts, eight large boxes containing toiletries, food and other items unavailable to the
trooper were sent directly to them. The students wrote letters and drew pictures to
include in the packages to the soldiers to show their appreciation for their service.
