Members of the Rotary Club of Killeen-Heights put Service Above Self into action this past Saturday by building Little Free Libraries to encourage reading, promote literacy, and strengthen connections throughout their community.

With tools in hand and teamwork at the forefront, Rotarians worked together to transform building materials into neighborhood book exchanges that will offer children and adults opportunities to discover new stories and enjoy the benefits of reading.

The concept behind Little Free Libraries is simple: “Take a Book, Share a Book.” By making books more accessible, these small libraries encourage a culture of sharing while helping inspire curiosity, learning, and a lifelong love of reading.

Beyond the construction itself, the project demonstrated how Rotary clubs create meaningful community impact through hands-on service. Members combined their time, skills, and enthusiasm to support literacy and create a resource that will continue benefiting the community long after the building day is over.

Once installed, the libraries will serve as lasting reminders of the power of neighbors helping neighbors and Rotarians working together to make a difference.

Through projects like this, the Rotary Club of Killeen-Heights demonstrates that even a simple idea can create lasting opportunities for learning and connection.

Building libraries. Inspiring readers. Strengthening communities.

That’s Rotary People of Action in action!
