Happy New Year, District 5870! Over the past few years, the importance and power of connection has been evident as we have come together to help those in need.  What amazes me most is that this heart felt desire to help others took place on a global level.  We have all witnessed how much can be achieved by working together.

Our 2022-23 Rotary International President recently shared her vision of which I could not agree more.  “It is our offer of hands-on service, personal growth, leadership development, and lifelong friendships that creates purpose and passion…

The comfort and care of our members is the single best driver of membership and retention. We need to create club experiences that are warm, welcoming and extend to those who want to engage with our club..  Let’s help our members fall in love with Rotary all over again.” ~ Jennifer Jones

This year in District 5870 you will not hear of a membership growth number but instead we will focus on engaging and re-engaging new and existing members through connection, collaboration and the building of relationships.  We will work to put Rotary service on display in an effort to raise awareness of what we do, as we strive to work together to do more in our communities and throughout our wold.

As we begin this new year, I encourage you to dream and then to take responsibility to make your Rotary dream a reality.  “Imagine, a world that deserves our best where we get up each day knowing that we can make a difference… Imagine a world without polio. Imagine a world with clean water for everyone. Imagine a world free of disease. A world where every child learns to read. Imagine kindness and hope and love and peace. And that, my dear friends, is why our theme is Imagine Rotary. ~ Jennifer Jones

I look forward to visiting each of your clubs, where we have the opportunity to work together in a collaborative hands-on service project. I also hope to see you at the Foundation Gala held on January 28 or Conference of Clubs in Corpus Christi, which will include a fun event at the Texas State Aquarium.  This is going to be a fun and impactful year in our District and I encourage you to participate, connect with your fellow members and Imagine what Rotary means to you.
