Rotary Club of Flatonia’s USS Lexington "Heritage Pride" Project was held on Thursday, 16 May 2019.  We sponsored all the Juniors at Flatonia High School who are taking History to a full day of touring and entertainment at the USS Lexington in Corpus Christi.
They were treated to a breakfast on the bus trip down, and lunch on the ship.  The day included a history talk on the USS Lexington, a 3D IMAX movie on US aircraft carriers called “Guardians of the Sea”, a guided tour of the Lady Lex from the pilot house and bridge down to the engine rooms, and an exhibit of Pearl Harbor.  They also received personalized dog tags to commemorate their trip.  It is an educational, eyeopening, and inspirational day for the students.  We had 31 students this year and 8 chaperones.  A special thank you to our two Flatonia Rotarians, who are also Navy veteran A6 aviators, Mark McLaughlin and Bernie Satterwhite, for sharing their experiences of flying and landing on the the USS Lexington.  Be the Inspiration!
