The Rotary, worldwide, has pursued the eradication of polio. Water for the Navajo Indians in Arizona is a Texas District 5870 project that is in process. Members of Rotary are addressing the problems of human trafficking.
All these are truly marvelous goals that deserve support and action. Bravo Rotary!

However, all work and no play could make a Rotary Club lacking; not with Sunshine Rotary. Sure, we do all of these things and more - but we also have fun. Sunrise welcomed the fall season with an informal pot luck dinner at a members' business facility. We learned more about what members do outside of Rotary programs. Since food and socializing are two of the most genuine pleasures, it was an enlightening and fulfilling evening we plan to continue. An all-knowing, all-seeing “Sage From the East” passed out a few laughs.

Field of Honor, a week long Rotary initiated celebration for military and first responders for Veteran's Day week, requires tireless efforts from Rotary members. Sunrise had the pleasure of participating daily, plus, coordinating the Veteran's Day Program  schedule. Our members, retired Air Force Major Robert Beavers and retired Navy CAPT William Kelberlau, came dressed in full regalia to honor placing the wreath. In addition, CAPT Kelberlau,
current president of Sunrise, shared the story of the establishment of the grave of The Unknown Soldier, November 11, 1921, 100 years ago.

Blue Santa, a project supported by a number of local groups, is an activity Sunrise engages with yearly. Collecting toys for kids at Christmas is just plain fun! Everyone seems to think Santa can only ride in a sleigh pulled by reindeer. Not true. Our Mr. Claus, Shane Shafer our next president, rode his Christmas red motorcycle throughout the neighborhood to the delight of the passersby.

Well, back to work for 2022. Many projects are on the schedule for next year with the big one being the conference in Houston. Hope to see you there.
